The HK Prize and Other Announcements

The hk prize is one of the top events in Hong Kong racing and has attracted some of the world’s greatest jockeys, trainers and horses to its track. Currently, the race has an estimated total prize fund of HK$20.8 million, including a HK$2.8 million jackpot enhancement to the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool. The jackpot will also be enhanced on seven more racedays in February, with the potential for a single winning unit to take home a minimum of HK$18 million.

The prize money of the LINK Hong Kong Open is set to be higher than ever before this year. The winner of this week’s event will walk away with a cheque for HK$360,000, which is 2.8% more than the payout Andrey Rublev received when he won the tournament in 2023. In addition, the runner-up will receive a HK$220,000 cheque. This is far more than the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open, which has a prize fund of just $4m, and the Jonsson Workwear Open on the DP World Tour, which has a prize fund of just $1.5m.

HK$10 million will be added to the Group 1 prize money at the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s 88 domestic fixtures next season, with an additional HK$5 million being added to both the Class 1 and Griffin races. These increases are part of the Club’s long-term strategy to ensure that its domestic prize money is amongst the highest in the world and to help prepare our young people for the challenges ahead.

To celebrate the centenary of the Department of History, a fund was established to award in perpetuity a prize to the student with the best result in History among the final-year students of any faculty under the new four-year undergraduate curriculum. The fund also commemorates the late George B. Endacott, who was responsible for re-establishing History as a respectable field of study in the 1950s.

The ICAS Book Prize 2023 for the best article on Global Hong Kong Studies is organised and sponsored by the Society for Hong Kong Studies (SHKS). This is the latest of a series of books prizes which have been launched at ICAS conventions since 1997.

The prestigious Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) is held every year to reward excellence in the local film industry. Nominations are made by a group of representatives from thirteen professional film bodies, while voting is conducted in January and March. The winners are announced at a ceremony in April. This year’s winners were announced on Thursday, and included a number of big names. The full list is available here.
