hk prize is an extremely renowned writing contest that awards authors who write about Hong Kong history and culture. While competition for entry is fierce, it can be well worth your while to submit your work if you’re passionate about the topic and can write with talent. Top ten finalists receive a monetary prize and a plaque at an award ceremony as well as F&B and shopping vouchers. If you’re considering entering, make sure you read the rules carefully to avoid any issues down the road.

The Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities awards a prize to early career scholars in the humanities who have submitted their first monograph. The prize was previously administered by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Hong Kong, but was transferred to Arizona State University and Human Rights Watch in June 2020 after China enacted a draconian national security law that led to the closure of several media outlets in the city.

In 2021, Prince William launched the Earthshot Prize, an international competition to support climate and environmental innovators. The Earthshot Prize is a significant part of the Duke of Cambridge’s work to promote sustainability, and was inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s “Moonshot” pledge in 1962 to stimulate the United States’ competitive edge in space exploration.

In addition to a grand prize, there are five other categories of awards, which include the People’s Choice Award and Best Science Film, as well as the Outstanding Young Alumni Award, which recognizes graduates who have excelled in professional work, public service or social enterprise and have made significant contributions in their field of endeavour. This year, a total of HK$180,000 will be awarded to winners and their schools.

A number of other prizes are awarded annually to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including the Anita Chan Lai Ling Prizes in Chinese Culture, the Dr Chu Yuk Baw Prizes in Civil Engineering (Engineering Design and Communication), the Kate Cheng Memorial Scholarship for Postgraduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases and the Spring Cheung Memorial Prize in Chinese Studies. Some of these prizes were established with the generous support of donors, while others are supported by the HK Government.

Turns out, you don’t have to be a professional athlete to earn money from running marathons. The Hong Kong Marathon will give HK$10,000 to all male and female finishers who run under 3:00 and 3:30 respectively, as long as they’re permanent residents of the city and meet certain criteria. This is the largest amount of money an amateur runner has ever received in Hong Kong. The marathon also offers HK$20,000 to the school of the Judges’ Prize winner, who is chosen by a panel of judges. Applicants must be nominated by their teachers and are encouraged to submit their artwork online before the submission deadline. This competition is free to enter and open to all secondary school students in Hong Kong. Nominations close on 28 November 2022. All entries are reviewed and scored by a panel of judges.
