The Hongkong Prize is a competition open to scientists who have published scientific research with a direct impact on society. Winners will receive a monetary prize and access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities, which can help them advance their careers in one of Asia’s most vibrant science hubs. Past winners have included journalists who expose human rights abuses and activists who risk their lives for freedom of speech, as well as a researcher who invented liquid biopsy to detect cancer more quickly.
In addition to providing a substantial cash prize, the prize offers scientists an opportunity to make connections with other international experts in their fields, and will provide them with opportunities to visit Hong Kong and learn about its unique scientific and cultural environment. Applicants can register for the prize starting March 1, and will be selected in three waves – Southeast Asian residents first, then mainland Chinese, then the rest of the world.
This prize is intended to honor the work of researchers and students in various disciplines who are advancing world civilisation and building harmonious societies, as well as demonstrating leadership in their field. A monetary award of HK$100,000 is presented to the winner, with a further HK$200,000 donated by The Hong Kong Foundation to help subsidize the research expenses of the next finalists. The Prize also provides a platform for showcasing the achievements of aspiring artists in Hong Kong and beyond, and is an excellent way to promote the local arts scene.
The HK Global Development Prize is an annual competition open to individuals who are making outstanding contributions to enhancing Hong Kong’s role as a global hub for innovation and connecting with the wider world. Previous winners have included an art curator who worked to promote Chinese traditional culture in the West and a social service worker who established a non-profit organisation to help those in need.
The prize is a prestigious accolade that celebrates the creativity of students from secondary schools in Hong Kong. All participating students must be nominated by their teachers, and the shortlisted finalists are selected by a panel of judges. The judges’ decision will be final.
